St. Augustine, Florida

Posted by sandyalves on April 2, 2016

We decided to hang out in Kissimmee for the morning, because we heard there was a big storm moving down the state. We didn’t leave until after 1:00 pm.  The weather wasn’t bad at all, but the traffic getting out of Orlando was horrendous so we didn’t pulled into Anastasia State Park and got our space (#58 on Sand Dollar Way) until early evening. The Park was very nice, very lush, like Hanna Park. We got everything set up and then drove into St. Augustine. I had found a cocktail place called the Ice Plant. It was a converted ice house, we ended up upstairs where we had smoked fish dip and cocktails. It was all very good, so we decided to stay for dinner.

The next day we had a casual morning, and then hopped on our bikes towards St. Augustine. Our first stop, St. Augustine Lighthouse. We walked up 210 steps to get to the top and it was an incredible view. It was a nice sunny day, but quite windy and a bit chilly. We went back down and walked around the lighthouse grounds for a bit and then headed over to the Conch House Tiki bar for lunch. The we road our bikes across the Bridge of Lions.

It was so pretty, we locked up our bikes and walked across the bridge and back. While we were on it, they had to lift the drawbridge so that two boats could go through. It is the last jackknife bridge built in the country. Then we headed over and walked through the old town for a bit, then caught the Red Train and did a 1.5 hour tour through St. Augustine. Our favorite spots were the Flagler hotels which had been converted into Flagler College.

For the next 2 days Caleb made us a picnic lunch that we took down to the beach. And before we knew it, it was time to hit the road again.
