Natchez, MS and Vidalia, LA

Posted by sandyalves on January 17, 2016

We have been in Natchez, MS learning a lot about slavery, plantation owners and the Civil War. We are actually sitting right next to the Mississippi River which is currently 8.6′ above flood level which is 48′ on the West side in Vidalia, LA. No threat to our safety, yet. I really don’t want to become a Darwin statistic. I have enjoyed watching barges travel up and down the river as I work. Today we had a wicked thunderstorm. Pippin has kept hidden under his blanket. The rain can get pretty loud in our tin can.

This is an incredibly beautiful area known for its magnificent homes built by very wealthy plantation owners. Natchez is 300 years old this year! We have not heard any Blues but we have eaten BBQ at the Butt Hut and some pretty good Mexican food! I plan to find some biscuits tomorrow! Natchez is the biscuit capital of the world, so I need get me some of those. Saturday we are headed back to Lafayette. YES! Billy’s Boudin and Cracklins!!!!!
